Ranking of Journals in Religion and Theology - the 2011 ERIH Index
For over ten years now work has been going on within the European Science Foundation to increase the visibility of European research in the Humanities. One tool that was developed was the ranking of journals in humanities. This led to the publication of the ERIH Initial List: Religious Studies and Theology (2007) which gave journals a ranking of A, B, C. This ranking induced confusion as to the quality of the publications.

After several years of work the list and the ranking system have now been revised. The list is now called the European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH). Journals are now classified into two main categories: NAT (National), INT (International) with subcategories 1 and 2. These are explained here. Basically, those who wanted to get published in an A ranking journal will now shoot for the INT1.
